The School Education Department’s move comes in the backdrop of mobile gadgets being interfaced with the training to facilitate technology-enabled classes.
A senior Directorate of School Education official told DT Next that all government school teachers have been instructed that having smartphones is a must. “In the first phase, the government is planning on setting up more than 10,000 Smart classrooms,” he said, adding, “Smart phones will make teachers Smart classroom-friendly.”
Stating that in the next phase, rest of the government schools will have Smart classrooms, the official said the entire concept is based on the idea of incorporating latest advancements in the field of education with technology as several tools have been developed to help teachers too in this regard. He also said that the government plans to launch several useful educational Apps as well.
The official also said that shortly another app would be launched wherein teachers could register their attendance. “The government is planning to send periodic messages to teachers about latest developments like transfer orders, circulars, notification and other matters,” he said.
According to the official, more than two lakh teachers from middle to higher secondary level have been asked to have smartphones from January 2020. He also said that at present, more than 40% of teachers working in government schools do not have smartphones.
