Gearing up for the state assembly elections in 2021, the ruling AIADMK convened its general council presided by Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan on Saturday.
Sixteen more resolutions that listed the government's achievements were passed with rousing reception from the party cadres.
Held at a popular wedding hall in Chennai, 3,500 party workers attended the council meeting. Adhering to the SOPs, the workers were let in after producing a covid-negative certificate and enforcement of masks.
Deputy Convenor KP Munusamy's verbal-pyrotechnics set the tone of the council. In a veiled attack on BJP which tries to lead the alliance under 'NDA coalition', he said national parties are insignificant in Tamil Nadu politics and the tussle is only between DMK and AIADMK.
The Council decided that the parties that accept Edappadi Palaniswami as Chief Minister candidate alone would be considered for coalition.
Co-Convenor Palaniswami cheered up the cadres saying 'leave the coalition decision with us (him and O Panneerselvam), cadres must take the party's achievement to nook and crannies in ensuring our victory.'
Earlier, both Palaniswami and Panneerselvam paid respects to Former leaders J Jayalalithaa and MGR. This election is crucial for the party as winning this election would mean third straight AIADMK tenure, a precedent set by the party's founder MGR alone in Tamil Nadu politics.
