Heavy rainfall in parts of Kodaikanal that lasted for about three hours late on Friday night triggered minor mudslides at a few locations on Palani road and at Vilpatti. The mudslide that occurred at Ealkkai Valaivu on Palani road and also at Vilpatti disrupted vehicular traffic for some time, official sources said.
The tourist spots were closed since 7 pm on Thursday. But after the rains subsided, tourist spots except for those under Forest Department were reopened and the traffic resumed around 2 pm on Friday. But the mudslide resulted in a blockade.
When contacted on Saturday, Kodaikanal Sub-Collector M Sivaguru Prabakaran said debris from these locations were cleared with the help of earthmovers, and vehicular traffic resumed on the stretches. Rains that lashed parts of Kodaikanal stopped around 11 am, and pleasant weather has been prevailing since then, said officials who are expecting an increase in tourist footfall on Sunday.
