“As the BJP is not able to find its way in the state, Amit Shah is set to meet the AIADMK top brass during his visit to make way for BJP’s plans in the state. Amit Shah’s visit is set to bring a dynamic shift in the state politics,” said sources in the Secretariat.
As the state is going to witness Assembly elections in 2021, the BJP is preparing itself for the polls by organising various programmes, including the controversial Vel Yatra. However, the Vel Yatra could not kickoff as planned as the state government denied permission and arrested the BJP leaders when they tried to defy the orders.
Even the BJP state unit, which is in alliance with AIADMK, was not satisfied in the Vel Yatra issue as BJP state unit president L Murugan publicly expressed his dissatisfaction by saying that the state government made a mistake by stopping the party’s Vel Yatra.
Sources said that following the success of the BJP alliance in the recently conducted election in Bihar, the party decided to shift its focus on Tamil Nadu, which is set to face elections next year.
“Most parties have commenced their election works and Amit Shah’s visit will speed up the election process for the BJP,” feel sources.
However, the BJP leaders see the visit of Amit Shah as a chance to strengthen relationship between AIADMK and the BJP. “The visit of our leader to Tamil Nadu will strengthen the ties between AIADMK and BJP. As Amit Shah is a Union Home Minister, his visit will strengthen the goodwill between state and Centre and will develop it further,” BJP state secretary K Srinivasan, told DT Next.
Srinivasan also clarified that there is no strain in AIADMK-BJP ties. “BJP differs from AIADMK only in the issue of Vel Yatra, but the ties between both the parties remain the same,” he added.
