The State also added 5,447 cases on the day. Chennai accounted for 1,369 cases, followed by Coimbatore (473 cases), Chengalpattu (324). Salem (322), Tiruvallur (252) and Thanjavur (242). Tamil Nadu has so far recorded 6,35,855 COVID cases, of which 45,135 are active cases. This includes 13,110 active cases in Chennai.
Of the 67 deaths, 18 were in Chennai, followed by 6 deaths in Salem, 5 in Coimbatore, and 4 each in Namakkal, Tiruvallur and Tiruvannamalai.
In all, Tamil Nadu has recorded 9,984 deaths since reporting the first one on March 25. Chennai accounted for 3,336 deaths, while Chengalpattu had 579 deaths, Tiruvallur 570 and Kancheepuram 340. Coimbatore has recorded 476 deaths, Madurai 393 and Salem 363. Among the rest, six districts have recorded between 200 and 300 deaths. The least number is from Perambalur (20), followed by The Nilgiris (29).
Following treatment, 5,524 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,80,736. The bulletin from the Health Department added that 93,242 samples were tested.
