With Monday's cases, Tamil Nadu's overall COVID count has reached 5,47,337. Of the new cases, the capital city recorded 982 cases. Among other districts, Salem recorded 295 cases, Chengalpattu 219 cases, Tiruvallur 212 cases and 201 cases in Erode.
Cuddalore and Tirupur also reported more than 150 fresh infections on Monday. As many as 60 deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu, including 29 in private hospitals and 31 in government hospitals. The death toll in the State now stands at 8,871. As many as 3 people who did not have any comorbidities succumbed to the virus, while 57 others had several underlying comorbid conditions.
With 5,492 more discharges from several hospitals across the State, the total number of recoveries is inching towards 5,00,000. So far, 4,91,971 have been discharged post treatment. Currently, Tamil Nadu has 46,495 active cases, including 9,871 in Chennai.
There was a slight decline in the total number of samples tested as only 80,672 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. A total of 78,841 persons were tested in the past 24 hours. So far, the State has tested more than 65 lakh samples and 63 lakh people for the virus.
