Ramanathapuram SP, in a note, sent to all police Commissioners and district heads of police said that all political and community leaders should be told that there is no permission to travel to the memorial of Immanuel Sekaran, who was murdered in 1957 allegedly by members of another caste. The district police had already issued an order saying that the public will not be allowed to pay tributes to their leader on September 11 given the existing pandemic situation. Wearing of masks and maintaining proper social distance is mandatory.
Police had also banned the use of taxis, open-type vehicles, two-wheelers, tractors, vans and cycles during the visit.
Vehicles are not supposed to have any weapons and any caste-related posters. Those visiting the memorial are also advised not to use speakers. Any kind of march towards the memorial is strictly banned.
