According to AIADMK insiders, the back-to-back meetings are crucial and will continue for a few more days as the party leaders have started micro monitoring various government-appointed posts. Particularly the party is keen on bifurcating the bigger districts with more district posts.
The party is working with a simple formula, where a party district secretary should win at least two MLA seats under his jurisdiction and the Ministers should financially support the district units. There are some objections from district secretaries on not to reduce their jurisdiction limit, however, Chief Minister Palaniswami is keen on creating more rank and files, to take on the formidable DMK. There is also a tough fight between the supporters of OPS and EPS in grabbing the key vacant posts, insiders said.
“The ruling AIADMK without charismatic Amma (Jayalalithaa) has just eight months for the next assembly polls and this time it will be a new style of campaign and strategy due to COVID-19. Our party leaders are chalking out the organisational strategies that have been in place,” said AIADMK leader and former Rajya Sabha MP V Maitreyan.
When asked about will there be any major changes in the party organisation set up, he said, “I have no reliable information on that. It is natural for a mass party like AIADMK to start the poll strategy works early. But still, we have another 8 to 10 months to strengthen the party,” Maitreyan added.
Adding spice to the AIADMK meetings, Dairy Development Minister Rajenthra Bhalaji on Tuesday placed a full-page advertisement in DMK family members owned Tamil daily, thanking EPS and OPS for giving him the Virudhunagar district in-charge post.
