Amid COVID-19 spread, the farmers claimed that the pipeline projects are being undertaken in Salem, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Namakkal, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts. Farmers gathered at a farm in Karugalipalayam in Tirupur with black flags and raised slogans against the pipeline project. Farmers in Kuttapatti panchayat in Salem district also held a similar protest.
They sought to take the pipeline project proposed between Irugur in Coimbatore and Devanagonthi in Karnataka along the highways without affecting farm lands. Thousands of farmers were to be affected by the pipeline proposed to be laid for about 300 km through seven districts. The farmers have decided to continue their black flag protest till July 15 before deciding on the next course of action.
