As the number of COVID-19 cases reached 27,256 in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, more than 1,500 children below 12 years of age have been affected by the virus so far. Of the 1,384 new cases reported on Thursday in the State, 69 were among children below the age of 12.
TN recorded 12,132 active cases of COVID-19, of which 9,066 active cases are in Chennai, which recorded 1,072 cases. A total 169 cases were reported in Chengalpattu and 44 cases in Tiruvallur. Six women, a girl and five men succumbed to the virus. Those dead included a 17-year-old girl with diabetes, a 33-year-old woman who was a postnatal mother and a 25-year-old woman with bronchial asthma. The State also increased sample testing.
Class 10 student first corona case in Kodai
Kodaikanal recorded its first COVID case after a 16-yearold tested positive. She, along with her mother, had retuned on Wednesday night after staying for two months in Chennai. When contacted, Kodaikanal City Health Officer M Aravindh Krishnan said the girl returned to take the SSLC exam, scheduled on June 15. A medical team posted at Vadamadurai intercepted the car in which they were travelling after availing of the e-pass and collected swab samples from the girl, her mother and the driver. Test results on Thursday showed that the girl was positive, but the mother and the driver tested negative. The girl is being treated at Dindigul Government Hospital.
