In a bid to address the grievances of pensioners, including ex-service personnel, the district administration of Tiruchy and Thanjavur organised a meet at their respective Collectorate on Tuesday where the kin of the retired personnel also demanded to install Gandhi statue in all government schools across the State.
With the present generation not aware of freedom fighters, the State government should initiate steps to create awareness among the present generation, he further said. He also appealed to distribute free bus passes to freedom fighters in Tamil Nadu as it was issued by the Centre for train travel.
Meanwhile, in Tiruchy, the Collector said that around 1.10 lakh people receive pension in the district and a fund of Rs 10.42 crore is being distributed to the pensioners each month. He urged the pensioners who are yet to receive the benefits to attend the grievance meet which is organised to redress grievances.
