The response of Pattali Makkal Katchi founder Dr S Ramadoss stating that let actor Rajinikanth start his political party, then we can ponder about an electoral alliance has created a spark and surprise among the AIADMK workers.
According to informed AIADMK sources, there are several disgruntled party workers and former MLAs in touch with those close to the superstar. The grapevine is that a section of lower-rung functionaries has started weighing the options. “There is no space for me in the DMK. The AMMK has weakened due to the desertion. Like me, there are several workers ready to work along with Rajinikanth. AIADMK and Rajinikanth almost share the same ideology and thoughts and reports are stating that the actor will float the party by April,” said a former MLA wishing not to be named.
“The PMK has been a strong critic of Superstar Rajinikanth in the past, but now their tone has mellowed down. It looks like the PMK does not want to close the alliance channel with any of the party,” observed political commentator Raveendran Duraisamy adding that the PMK with a vote share of more than 5.5 per cent will be sought after ally in any closely contested elections.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK had also extended the party district secretaries meeting till Saturday. The AIADMK office-bearers of Chennai, Theni, Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai are to attend the high-level meeting at the AIADMK headquarters over the next three days.
“As of now, the AIADMK is solid with dual leadership led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam. The party is working towards the civic polls and the alliance issues are to be discussed only after April,” said an AIADMK spokesperson confirming that the talks related to actor Rajnikanth are very much in the air, but the party leaders have issued a diktat for spokespersons not to comment on poll alliances.
