The recent agitation against newly nominated DMK Vellore west district secretary K Devaraj revealed that the party too had not trifurcated its district units even after two new districts - Ranipet and Tirupattur, were carved out of Vellore revenue district a few months ago.
While the Vellore east district secretary is R Gandhi, Ranipet MLA, the central district secretary is held by Anaicut MLA AP Nandakumar while K Devaraj holds the Vellore west district secretary.
Asked why his party did not trifurcate Vellore district on party lines and appoint secretaries for the Vellore, Ranipet and Tirupattur districts, Nandakumar told DT Next,“We are waiting for a public hearing scheduled to be held shortly on how and in which district a few villages on the borders of the newly carved out districts are to be accommodated. Once this is done, Vellore district will also be divided party-wise but for now Gandhi represents Ranipet district, Devaraj Tirupattur district and Vellore district is represented by me.”
However, the AIADMK cadres, after coming to know of this issue, demanded that atleast the top district vacancies must be filled immediately.
On condition of anonymity, a senior AIADMK functionary said, “In DMK, atleast all posts have incumbents even if trifurcation is yet to take place, whereas in AIADMK, neither the trifurcation has been effected nor the party posts been created.”
Though AIADMK did have a post in the central district earlier, it was removed and parts of it were merged with the present Vellore east and west districts.
