Three tourists from Haryana were killed and 10 others suffered injured, when the van they were travelling was hit by another tourist bus from behind near Nesaneri Kanmoi in Thirumangalam of Madurai district, in the wee hours of Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Sayar (60), Rathnadevi (62) and Rathna (60), all from Haryana. The mishap took place when van driver slowed down the van, while the speeding tourist bus bound for Kalakad in Tirunelveli from Coimbatore hit the van from behind throwing the vehicle out of gear, sources said. Thirumangalam Taluk police immediately rushed to the spot and sent the victims to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital. Based on the preliminary investigations, the police revealed that the tourists from Haryana were traveling in the van. A total of 41 tourists reached Madurai by train on Saturday morning, of which 21 of them were travelling in the van bound for Kanniyakumari, when the accident occurred. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
