“These are subjects that will be discussed at the level of party general council and the party convenor (OPS) and joint convenor (EPS). The party functionaries and spokespersons should refrain from airing their personal views on CAA and alliance partners,” AIADMK said in a statement.
The joint statement issued by Panneerselvam and Palaniswami pointed out that the AIADMK is a party that respects democratic rights. The AIADMK follows political discipline toeing with the lines of party high command, the statement said. The party functionaries vested with the job of communicating the party ideology should keep the focus on the public welfare schemes and it is for the party to decide on the political issues, the statement read.
It may be noted that this is third such recent gag order issued by the party to its functionaries warning not to comment on the controversial CAA.
“CAA comes with other issues like NRC and NPR, by ignoring the CAA, the AIADMK can distance itself from the controversies. The party is yet to decide on issues like NRC and NPR and hence it has warned the party workers to refrain from the subjects,” informed sources said.
The recent comments by former AIADMK MP Anwar Raja accusing the BJP had also forced it to issue a gag order, sources said.
