According to the police, the victim hailing from Ernakulam in Kerala was murdered by her boyfriend Sabir Sha (26) from Maradu in the same district. He is a car mechanic at a workshop in the same neighbourhood.
After completing school, the girl wished to pursue further studies abroad. However, Sabir did not like the proposal as he feared that she may marry someone else. When he opposed her idea, a quarrel reportedly broke out between them and subsequently, the girl snapped ties with him.
On Monday, the girl had gone to school, but did not return home thereafter. On receiving a complaint from the girl’s parents, the Kerala police launched a search.
Meanwhile, the workshop owner also lodged a complaint that Sabir went missing with a car. With preliminary inquiries revealing that the missing duo were in a love affair, special police teams went on a search for the duo.
With CCTV footage from Kerala check posts, the police traced the missing car to Tamil Nadu.
Upon alert, the Tamil Nadu police stepped up vigil and carried out vehicle check.
Meanwhile, the Valparai police intercepted the car driver near WaterFalls area in Valparai on Tuesday evening. The police spotted blood stains inside the vehicle.
Upon inquiries, the driver, Sabir, confessed to have kidnapped the girl and murdered her. He had then dumped the body in an area identified as Varattuparai in Valparai region.
The police then took the accused to the crime spot in a coffee estate, a few kilometers away, and retrieved the body of the girl with the assistance of the Kerala police on Wednesday morning. The body has been sent for post-mortem in Kerala.
