The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Ramanathapuram police to produce a man who was allegedly abducted after winning the election from a panchayat ward. Sathaiya, who represented DMK, had won as the Ward 8 councillor of Mudukulathur panchayat.
He added that his father was allowed to attend the swearing-in ceremony, but when he tried to meet him, he was denied access. After the swearing-in was over, the AIADMK cadre forcibly took Sathaiya away and has been keeping him under illegal detention, he alleged, and sought the intervention of the court to rescue him.\ However, when the petition came up before a division bench of Justices T Raja and B Pugazhendi, the counsel representing the State government denied any such abduction by AIADMK cadre.
The bench then directed the Ramanathapuram police to produce Sathaiya before the court on Thursday when the hearing would be taken up again. If not, the district SP should appear, it added.
