In a bizarre incident that created ripples in temple town of Tiruvannamalai, a police constable and Village Administrative Officer (VAO) were rushed to a private hospital in Chennai early Saturday due to acid burns.

Police revealed that Kilipattu VAO Sivakumar, who hails from Thendral Nagar had difference of opinion in official issues with constable Sripal’s mother-in-law Vimala, who was working as a revenue inspector at nearby Veraiyur village.
On Friday evening, Sivakumar had gone to Vimala’s house and had heated arguments.
Vimala informed Sripal of the incident and both went to Sivakumar’s house around 11 pm and demanded an explanation.
Enraged at turn of events, Sripal pulled out a bottle of acid that he had hidden in his clothes and threw it on Sivakumar. When the latter blocked the move, the acid also spilled on Sripal injuring both.
On hearing their screams neighbours rushed both to the Tiruvannamalai government medical college hospital before being referred to a private hospital in Chennai. Tiruvannamalai East police has registered a case and have begun investigation.
The constable is alleged to have thrown acid on the VAO and both were injured.
