PMK Youth Wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday demanded the Union government to expedite the process to combat global warming.
He also said that the Centre should follow the recommendations of UN by abandoning the thermal power plants and should go for cleaner technologies by taking steps to reduce vehicular pollution. By taking the above recommended measures the livelihood standard of Indians can be improved, said Anbumani.
Quoting the UN report, Anbumani said in the last 150 years the temperature of the earth has increased by 1.1 degrees and the current climate problems are due to the increase. However, the report has predicted that the increase in temperature will be around 3.2 degrees and if that happens the impacts will be highly unimaginable.
If the impact of global warming is to be reduced, the increase in temperature should be maintained at 1.5 degrees and for maintaining the increase at 1.5 degrees the government should complete the process of introducing clean energy by 2030, he added.
