In a huge blow to the AMMK, VK Sasikala loyalist and Karnataka face of the party V Pugazhendhi on Sunday announced that he would return to the parent party AIADMK.
“Many believed in TTV Dhinakaran, AMMK general secretary and joined the party, but he has disappointed us. We have decided to return to our parent party and serve the AIADMK,” said Pugazhendhi, in a meeting organised for discontented AMMK cadre in Salem.
The decision of Pugazhendhi to return to AIADMK is also a personal blow to Dhinakaran, as Pugazhendhi was looking after the prison affairs of AMMK leader Sasikala. Even before the split in AIADMK and rise of the AMMK, Pugazhendhi was the AIADMK state secretary for Karnataka and was in-charge of Parappana Agrahara prison, where the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and Sasikala were lodged.
After the death of Jayalalithaa and the rise of AMMK, Pugazhendhi went with Dhinakaran and continued to look after the prison affairs. This is also a huge blow to AMMK as the party is losing all its important functionaries, including former Minister Senthil Balaji and former MLA Thanga Tamilselvan to DMK and now Pugazhendhi to the AIADMK. The strife between Dhinakaran and Pugazhendhi started in Coimbatore when Pugazhendhi was caught expressing statements against Dhinakaran in a secret camera and followed that with meeting the Chief Minister and expressing his desire to re-join the parent party.
“People have already accepted Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam as their leaders and I have joined the party to realise the dream of Jayalalithaa that the party will rule the state for 100 years. I have met lakhs of people and people have asked me to return to the AIADMK expressing lack of confidence on Dhinakaran and fearing that DMK might come to power if AIADMK does not remain strong,” said Pugazhendhi.
In the meeting, seven resolutions were passed, including cancellation of recognition to AMMK by Election Commission, against taking biopics on Jayalalithaa, wishing Palaniswami and Panneerselvam for the recent by-election wins in Vikravandi and Nanguneri and so on.
