A miscreant, who attempted to tamper with an SBI ATM kiosk, escaped after seeing people at OFT in Tiruverumbur, Tiruchy, early on Saturday.
On Saturday around 2.30 am, a loud noise of breaking doors was heard from the ATM and so the people who were taking rest at the bus-stop rushed to the spot and were shocked to see a miscreant attempting to tamper with the ATM kiosk. However, on seeing them, the unidentified man escaped from the spot. The miscreant was around 30-year-old, according to those people who witnessed him.
Soon, they passed on the information to the Navalpattu police, who led by ASP Praveen Umesh, rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. The police found that the miscreant had attempted to break the kiosk with a heavy stone but he escaped after seeing the people.
Subsequently, the police secured the CCTV footage in which a person with around 30 years was seen entering the ATM centre and applying a cream over the CCTV camera and later tampering with the kiosk.
The police suspect that the person was a habitual offender. The Navalpattu police are investigating.
