A railway employee restored the broken pantograph of a Salem-bound EMU from Arakkonam was run over by a train while crossing the track at Kethandapatti railway station near Tirupattur on Tuesday.
Jolarpet railway workers carried out the repairs and replaced the broken pantograph in another two hours following which the delayed EMU proceeded on its journey as also the Seshadri and Kovai express trains.
Meanwhile, 42-year-old railway worker Gopinathan, who has helped in the repair works was hit by Chennai bound Lalbagh Express when he was crossing the tracks. Gopinathan, a resident of New Hotel Street in Jolarpet, died on the spot. The railway police have registered a case and are investigating.
