Anandan Gunasekaran, the para-athlete who secured three gold medals in the World Military Games organised by International Military Sports Council, received a grand welcome in Tiruchy on Monday.
He joined Military Sports academy in Pune and continued to shine in the field of athletics. Later, Anandan was selected to represent India in the 7th Para-World Military Track and Field championship held in China in which 144 countries participated. The event was held between October 17 and 27.
Anandan secured gold medal in 100 metre, 200 metre and 400 metre race categories and returned home in Kumbakonam on Monday morning. Here, he was given a grand welcome and was taken to Uchipillayar temple in a procession. He was also felicitated at his former school.
“My ultimate aim is to win gold in the 2020 Olympic and have been training for it accordingly,” said Anandan.
But, the 32-year-old also said that despite winning several gold medals, he was not congratulated by either the Chief Minister or the Prime Minister.
