The Tiruchy city police have written to the Karnataka police and Parappana Agrahara prison authorities seeking the transfer of the prime accused Murugan in the Lalithaa jewellery heist case to Tiruchy prison.
The Tiruchy police took the custody of his close associate Suresh and the term has been completed. Suresh was also produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, No 1 Tollgate police has sought seven-day custody of Suresh for interrogation in a related to the robbery in Punjab National Bank as the same gang have confessed to have committed the offence.
While speaking to the reporters, the City Commissioner of Police A Amalraj said that the city police which interrogated Suresh during the custody had received his confession that his gang was involved in the looting of Lalithaa jewellery and the gang had committed series of theft cases including PNB looting, Jeeyapuram Cooperative Bank robbery and ATM theft. This apart, the gang had been involved in several theft offenses in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Madurai and Chennai in Tamil Nadu, he added.
Amalraj said that the prime accused Murugan has been lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central prison in Bengaluru for the cases committed in Karnataka. “We have sought permission to transfer Murugan to Tamil Nadu which would help the interrogation process. We have sent letters to the Karanataka court as well as the Parappana Agrahara prison officials. We expect, the request would be considered,” the Commissioner stressed and added that the police have collected around 95 per cent information from the gang in custody.
