Assembly constituencies Vikravandi in Villupuram district and Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district, are all set to go to the bypolls on Monday.
Vikravandi constituency is facing the by-election following the death of DMK MLA K Radhamani, who won the 2016 Assembly election with a victory margin of close to 7,000 votes. Following the demise of Radhamani, DMK has decided to contest again in the bypoll and announced N Pugalenthi as the party candidate for the constituency.
AIADMK which came second in the 2016 election announced M R Muthamizhselvan as the candidate for the constituency. PMK which came third following the two major Dravidian parties in 2016 is now in the alliance with AIADMK and is set to add strength to the AIADMK alliance.
Apart from DMK and AIADMK, there are 10 other candidates in the fray including Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate K Kandasamy. There are 275 polling stations in the constituency for 2,23,387 voters and among the total polling stations, 61 were declared sensitive.
According to Villupuram district administration, there are 12 check posts setup for by-election and all the check posts were closely guarded by policemen. Close to 2,500 policemen apart from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were stationed across the constituency for election work. More on P6
