The stage has been set for a smooth conduct of the by-election to the Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency here on Monday.
The main contest will be between A John Kumar, the Congress candidate in alliance with the DMK and other parties, and Bhuvaneswarn of the N R Congress in the NDA alliance.
As many as 32 polling stations were established with all facilities including VVPAT and webcasting.
Seven polling booths were identified as vulnerable. One booth will be managed exclusively by women.
A total of 185 polling personnel will conduct the by-election and 600 police personnel from Puducherry, besides one company of para-military force, were deployed for manning security during voting.
5 held for giving cash to voters. Meanwhile, a day before the by-election to the Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency, police arrested five persons belonging to the NR Congress and the AIADMK on charges of distributing cash to voters on Sunday.
The police said Sivamani, Gunalan, Pandiyan , Mahalingam and Pandurangan- were arrested and cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh besides liquor bottles and booth slips were seized from their possession.
The police also registered cases against three for giving free cable TV connections at Rainbow Nagar in the Kamaraj Nagar constituency.
The police said the flying squad on Saturday evening noticed the three working on a post and when questioned, they informed that they were giving cable TV connections to 250 persons at Rainbow Nagar as directed by Congress candidate John Kumar. As the flying squad videographed them, the three escaped form the place. Following a complaint, the police registered cases against the three workers of AJK TV, a cable TV network owned by John Kumar.
