A sub-registrar and document writer of the Katpadi sub registrar’s office were arrested on Friday for receiving Rs 1 lakh as bribe to transfer the property of a man to his two sons.
However, sub-registrar Devarajan (53), demanded them to pay Rs 1 lakh as bribe in addition to the regular charges of Rs 35,000. The document writer Chandramohan (52), acted as an intermediary in the deal. The demand for bribe irked Sasikumar and hence he filed a complaint with the Vellore vigilance police. Based on the complaint, the police handed over chemically treated currency notes and requested Sasikumar to give the notes to the registrar.
Following this, Sasikumar went to the Katpadi sub registrar’s office and handed over the cash to Chandramohan who in turn handed it over to Devarajan. Based on the proof, both of them were caught red handed and were arrested by the police on Friday. The police officials are further investigating into the incident.
