When Jinping arrives in Chennai Airport on Friday afternoon, he will be welcomed by folk artistes playing the Karakattam, Oyilattam, Thapattam and so on. Following this, when the Chinese President leaves for the private hotel in Guindy, 6,800 students will be made to stand enroute to welcome him with placards and flags of both India and China.
According to government officials, more than 55,000 school and college students have been roped-in to welcome Jinping. When he reaches the hotel, he will be welcomed by traditional Nadaswaram music followed by Chenda melam, Kovia drums, Nasik Dhol and so on. In the evening, when the Chinese Premier leaves for Mahabalipuram, 49,000 students will accord him a grand welcome using flags and placards throughout his travel time.
While on his way to Mahabalipuram, several events at various points such as Karakattam and drums near Saidapet court, Thapattam and Oyilattam near Gandhi Mandapam, have been organised. Karakattam team from Madurai will perform near Madhya Kailash, a team of drum artistes will welcome Jinping in Kandanchavadi with Nadaswaram, Karakattam, Oyilattam and Karakattam in Thiruvadanthai.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday urged the people of TN to accord a grand welcome to Jinping who is on a two-day visit to Mahabalipuram to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The talks to be held between Modi and Xi in Mahabalipuram will elevate the stature of Tamil Nadu in world level,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.
Only 4 Deputy Commissioners in Chennai during Xi’s visit
With the city police finalising security arrangements for the visiting Chinese leader, Chennai will be left with just four Deputy Commissioners and 14 Assistant Commissioners to man city affairs.
Four DIGs and 16 officers in the rank of SPs will be deployed at the airport, place of stay of the President and his travel route, sources said.
Airport will have 3 SPs co-ordinating with officials of other agencies to look after security. They will be assisted by 6 Assistant Commissioners, 16 Inspectors, 48 SIs and 400 other police personnel. A quick reaction team will also be present at the airport. Another group of 3 SP rank officials will be in charge of the hotel periphery in Guindy. A total of 60 QRT will be deployed at the hotel. Two DIG rank officials, 8 SP rank officials and their subordinates including 30 ACs, 90 inspectors, 270 SIs will be deployed along with 3,000 personnel on the route that Jinping takes from the airport till Muthukad junction on ECR. State DGP, SP Kancheepuram and other senior officers are expected to be at Mahabalipuram. Three contingency routes are also ready in case of emergency.
