The CPM on Tuesday urged the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation to withdraw the steep hike in the miscellaneous charges, including for new power connections.
“For the power connection provided to domestic consumers, in case of the overhead single-phase connection has been increased from Rs 1,600 to Rs 2,800. While for the underground cable connection, the charge for the single-phase connection is Rs 6,400 and three-phase supply has been increased from Rs 7,450 to Rs 11,550,” CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said.
Pointing out that the public hearing held by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission, he said that his party office-bearers have given representations against the hiking of charges. “We wanted the TANGEDCO to scrap the wind banking system in the procurement of the wind power and to reduce the cost of the solar power procured from Adani to avoid the hiking of the miscellaneous charges,” he said, noting that however, the suggestion given by the participant at the public hearing was not taken into account while hiking the charges steeply. “TANGEDCO should revoke the price hike of the miscellaneous charges,” he said.
