Delay in updating land records in Gudiyattam and Pernambut taluks has affected registration of land sales in both taluks, according to informed sources.
Access to the Revenue Department’s e-records through both the independent e-records website and NICNET (National Informatics Centre Network) website results in the site first asking for details regarding the district, urban/rural distinction and taluk name.
It then advises the viewer that his patta/chitta and FMB (Field Map Book) can be viewed using either the patta or survey number. The FMB allows the viewer to see the boundaries of his property and also reveals details of ownership, the sources revealed.
When the number is entered, it does not progress further. “Failure of the website has resulted in my land sale being not registered,” says D Srinivasulu of Cherlopalli village in Pernambut taluk. “A printout of the patta being attached to land registration documents is a must and this we are unable to do,” adds S Sridhar of Gudiyattam town in the Gudiyattam taluk.
When this reporter enquired about this, it was revealed that the four-month-long delay was due to nearly 10 villages near the Gudiyattam railway station, which were earlier attached to the Pernambut taluk, being re-attached to the Gudiyattam taluk following sustained agitation by locals.
“But, why is the updating taking more than four months when the government has got the latest technology for this purpose?” asks BP Sampath, a person affected by the delay and a resident of Ramalai village in Gudiyattam taluk. Vellore Consumer Federation president K Sathiyamoorthy, who was appraised of the matter by affected public, said he would write to the revenue secretary and the CRA (Commissioner Revenue Administration) on the issue.
What annoys the public is that patta copies can now be procured only from the local taluk office through the VAO. Though the e-records website was created to ensure transparency and lack of corruption, the delay has resulted in VAOs demanding amounts ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500, depending on the applicant concerned and the urgency involved.
