Pollachi police have seized three idols taken to Kerala from Kumbakonam. A police team, involved in a routine vehicle check, intercepted a truck at Gopalapuram on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border on Monday night.
An examination revealed that there were three metal idols of Natarajar and Dwara Balagi. Though the persons taking the idols claimed that they were newly-made in Kumbakonam and are being taken to be delivered in Palakkad, they could not furnish proper documents.
Following this, the police brought the lorry and the idols worth about Rs 10 lakh to Pollachi taluk police station.
The police then handed over the idols to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HRCE) Department.
The idols are likely to be taken to Perur for examination to know if they were made of brass or panchaloha.
Further action will be taken based on the findings. The idols seized during a vehicle check in Pollachi
