Nilgiris police are probing into a complaint by a couple that they were abused by men belonging to a pro-Hindu outfit.
The couple was allegedly distributing pamphlets of the Pentecostal Mission, when the two men began to harass them.
The duo accused the couple of involving in a religious campaign for allegedly converting people near Bombay Castle in Udhagamandalam town on Monday.
The entire incident was captured in a mobile phone by one of the men and the video had gone viral in social media.
The couple, accompanied by authorities of Pentecostal Church, Nilgiri Diocese, petitioned District Collector Innocent Divya and police officials, seeking action against the two men.
The complainants alleged that the two men, besides abusing them, had also forced them to apply sacred ash on their foreheads.
On receiving the complaint, the police said that they have begun an investigation into the issue. “We have traced the two men and inquiries are on with them.
After a detailed investigation, a case will be registered soon,” said a police privy to the investigation. Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police C Kalaichelvan said that a probe is on and action would be taken on the complaint
