As several problems surrounding the Pernambut bus stand has put the proposed project at Sathgar village panchayat to a halt, members of the Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and VCK parties have decided to move court to ensure that the Pernambut civic officials do not give way to the AIADMK functionaries’ decision to shift the town bus stand to the site of their choice.
It may be recalled that the district administration’s move to relocate the Pernambut bus stand based on the proposal of acquaintance of AIADMK members, to a new location outside the city limits, has already irked the residents. After choosing a site at Sathgar village panchayat, the acquaintance has also “coerced” officials into accepting it, said sources.
Land belongs to EWS
Suresh Kumar issued notice to Chennai town and country planning director, its deputy and additional directors at Vellore as Pernambut sub registrar M Sasikala of Pulavarpalli village in Vaniyambadi taluk purchased 4 plots in the proposed site meant for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) at Sathgar from C Babu, D Ronak and D Karan Kumar. The 4 plots meant for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) has invited legal notice since the rules stipulate that EWS plots cannot be reclassified or sold to others. As Suresh Kumar said, “Even if the sale of 4 plots to Sasikala was true, rules were overlooked as an EWS beneficiary cannot buy more than one plot and if she did actually buy the four plots, then she cannot be a EWS beneficiary and hence the sale deed has to be cancelled.”
As the legal notice failed to evoke any response, BSP Gudiyattam constituency secretary Jaibeem Raja said that he would move court along with Suresh Kumar and GM Munirathinam, VCK Pernambut organiser.
Double the guideline value
Meanwhile, Suresh Kumar said, “I was willing to offer my 2 acres of my land for free, located 700 metres from the present terminus to construct a bus stand. After informing civic officials, I accompanied them to Chennai to meet top officials who agreed to my offer.
Then elected civic officials – after I had drawn up a document stating that I was giving 2 acres free for the bus stand – drew up another predated document stating that I will sell the 2 acres for double the guideline value. This frustrated me as the money from the guideline value was meant to be shared by elected officials.”
RTI queries on the ownership of the Sathgar site also failed to elicit an answer. “Without knowing who owns the land or will take over, officials cannot enter the site to start work on the proposed bus stand,” Suresh Kumar said.
Budget deficit Pernambut local body
The municipal administration officials in Chennai told that the government would not fund the project and the funds to purchase land should be generated by the local body. However, “As Pernambut was a budget deficit local body, the entire project came to a standstill,” Suresh Kumar added.
