In a statement, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said Subhasri was run over by a water tanker after she was hit by a banner kept by the ruling AIADMK on Thoraipakkam-Velacherry 200 feet road. “The police will not let the Opposition parties to even place a placard or put up a poster for holding a protest. But the same police allow the ruling party members to erect life-size cutouts and banners for their party leaders and ministers for birthdays, wedding ceremonies and party functions. The Madras High Court had asked to take strict action against those erecting banners illegally. However, life losses and injuries are happening repeatedly because of both the police and the government remaining mute spectators to such blatant violations and abuse of power,” he said.
