Four panchaloha idols were found stolen from a temple in Pollachi near Coimbatore on Friday.
He found the rear window grills broken open and also two idols of Lord Vishnu and two Mahalakshmi idols missing from their pedestal inside the temple. The idols were donated by devotees a few years ago to the century old temple. A silver crown, gold ‘mangalsutra’ and a silver lamp went missing from the temple. On receiving information, the Negamam police held inquiries.
A sniffer dog, which was pressed into service, ran a little distance away from the temple and stood clueless. The finger print experts took chance prints from the temple.
Special teams of police were searching through images recorded in a CCTV fixed in the neighbourhood to trace the culprits. Police are also probing to know if the idols stolen from the temple were by members of an idol smuggling racket.
Only a few months ago, two panchaloha idols of Lord Venugopalswamy and Sathyabama went missing in a temple near Samalapuram in Tirupur. As police began a search, the culprits left the idols along the national highway near Karumathampatty in Coimbatore, which were then recovered.
