AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbazhagan on Friday warned the government that his party would resort to massive agitations if the government failed to remit the cash for free rice in the bank account of the beneficiaries forthwith.
However, the money allocated for free rice was diverted to other schemes, he alleged. He said in Tamil Nadu, 1.92 crore families were provided with 20 kg of free rice.
But here, the government could not provide free rice for just 3.4 lakh families, he said. Anbazhagan said the Lt Governor should have supervised the procurement of rice instead of stalling the scheme itself, he added.
The AIADMK leader said during last year a sum of Rs 216 crore was allocated for free rice and of which only Rs 84 crore was spent. He charged that the government is blindly implementing Central government schemes and now it is keen on implementing the new Motor Vehicle Act.
