Inquiries with the rescued persons in the boat capsize tragedy in the Kollidam river on Wednesday evening revealed that three persons, including a woman among them, were missing and the body of the woman was recovered on Thursday, while the search is on for two others.
Later, the residents from Mela Ramanallur along with Vadasarukkai village residents conducted a rescue operation and moved the stranded people to the river bank.
The rescued were admitted to Thirumanur and Kabistalam GHs and the Collectors from both Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts visited them in the hospital and consoled them. The collectors were told that all those who were travelling in the boat were rescued.
Meanwhile, three persons, who were identified as Suyam Prakasam (55) of Pattukudi, Rani (45) from Karuppur and Palanisamy (50) of Nayakkarpettai who went to participate in the consecration programme failed to return to their respective houses. Subsequently, those who accompanied the trio confirmed their travel and a search operation commenced on Thursday.
The fire and rescue team from Papanasam, Kumbakonam and Thiruvaiyaru and the teams from Ariyalur districts were searching for the missing persons.
Around 4 pm, one of the teams recovered the body of Rani near Anaikarai while the search is on for the other two.
In the meantime, Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R Doraikannu visited the people of Vadasarukkai and Mela Ramanallur and consoled the victims.
