In a precautionary measure, the Ramanathapuram district administration has promulgated prohibitory orders in the region for a period of two months, effective Monday.

Madurai:
Based on recommendations of SP Omprakash Meena, Ramanathapuram Collector K Veera Raghava Rao issued the order on Sunday, invoking Section 144 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The entry of all types of hired vehicles transporting volunteers to take part in the two events has been banned. Hired vehicles, tourist vehicles, stage carriages with temporary or special permits, goods carriers, tractors, two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws would, from September 9 to 15, be banned from taking volunteers to participate in the observation of Immanuel Sekaran’s death anniversary, and again be banned from October 25 to 31 during Guru pooja and Thevar jeyanthi celebrations, the Collector said.
Except with prior permission, the assembly of five or more people at public places and public meetings are banned. Carrying of torches and holding processions are also banned.
The order will be effected in view of preventing any untoward incident during the death anniversary of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran falling on September 11 and ‘Thevar Jeyanthi’ on October 31.
