Four persons including a woman were held on Sunday for plotting to smuggle an air gun to Sri Lanka, at Uchipuli in Mandapam block.
Hence, based on a tip off, a team of police from Uchipuli went in search of the weapon in her house, sources said. After recovering the gun that was stashed inside a box, Valli was arrested.
The Ramanathapuram Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena, said that along with the air pistol, ten pellets were also recovered from the house. The preliminary investigations revealed that the gun was meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, ten days back, Boominathan who was allegedly in an illegal relationship with Valli, was held in Chennai for the possession of brown sugar.
He was later arrested by the Customs Department. After inquiry, he revealed that the gun was kept in the house resided by Valli.
The Custom officials after grilling Boominathan busted a racket that involved three more identified as V Sankar Raja (36) of Parasakthi Nagar in Coimbatore, M Arjun alias Kumaresan (25) of Muthusamy Nagar in Dharmapuri and S Manikandan (27) of Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore. The group was about to smuggle the gun to Sri Lanka.
Based on a complaint lodged by Ashok Kumar, Village Administrative Officer of Pirappanvalasai, Uchipuli, police have registered a case under the Arms Act. All the accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody, the Inspector said.
