A man suspected to have links with terror outfits and his woman accomplice were on Saturday taken into custody from a Kerala court premises, while three others were detained in Coimbatore during security checks by the police of the two neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala following intel alert on intrusion of six Lashkar-e-Taiba members into Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, as an additional measure, CRPF personnel and commando squad from other States were brought to the district.According to officials, two commando squads were stationed in the city and Mettupalayam, 34 km from Coimbatore. A battalion of CRPF personnel from other States that arrived in Coimbatore on Saturday would be posted on security duty in various places.
Meanwhile, a special team of BDDS deputed to the Mettur dam thoroughly scanned the facility. The team would be monitor the dam round-the-clock, sources said.
In Kerala, a Malayalam news channels aired video of a man being whisked away by police from the district court premises. Police did not answer queries by the media. The man’s lawyer told a channel that his client Rahim Kolliyil, a resident from Kodungallur in Thrissur district, who returned from Bahrain two days ago, and his woman accomplice, was picked up by police as they came to the court to move a plea to “prove his innocence” following reports that he had links with the LeT members who had reportedly intruded.
