Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi visited Sorapet village and inaugurated a restored pond on Saturday as part of her 230th weekend round.
The pond was developed at an estimation of Rs 4.7 lakh. Of this, Marico contributed Rs 4.03 lakh under its CSR programme and the rest was contributed by the village association. Following an appeal by the Lt.Governor, 50 students of Pondicherry University participated in the morning round.
Bedi inaugurated the pond and dedicated it to the village. The students along with the village association planted saplings around the pond.
Thanking the villagers and students, Bedi said that volunteer involvement towards the service to the village and community development will not only benefit the nation, but also will nurture cooperation, unity and leadership among people.
