Upset over ‘ambitious’ talks among juniors, seniors send SOS to Stalin
In a recent discussion with his confidants, Stalin junior was understood to have received suggestions to replace a few district bosses. One of the suggestions made to the new youth wing secretary was replacing a couple of long-standing district secretaries with pliable young men who have their roots in the youth brigade. The suggestion poured in after the youth wing realised that district secretaries have already started identifying their probable MLA candidates for the next Assembly election.
A youth wing office-bearer close to the influential secretary had told him that the young udanpirapus were not given due representation in the list prepared by the district secretaries who have planned to recommend their cherrypicked candidates. The office-bearers, sources revealed, had proposed a state-level token elevation for the district bosses to plant their supporters.
Understandably, district secretaries who caught whiff of the discussion did not waste time in attempting to nip the issue in the bud. The disgruntled ‘seniors’ had shared their anguish and sent SOS to the president, through their contacts and in person, expressing disappointment at the ‘youngsters’ threatening their position.
“Such talks have been going on for a while. A couple of ambitious youth wing office-bearers are trying to take advantage of the long standing of a few district secretaries. But we don’t expect Stalin to even given the idea a serious thought. The last thing the party would want ahead of an Assembly election would be unsettling the district units. Where would he accommodate the seniors,” a second rung leader who did not wish to be named asked.
Another skeptic party leader says, “The only available option would be appointing district secretaries as deputy general secretaries or organising secretaries. How many such posts can be created? We cannot have a ‘dozen’ organising secretaries like the AIADMK.” While the probability of the organisational shake up becoming a reality is too pricy a question that begs an answer, many in the youth wing ranks are already hoping Udhayanidhi would hint the answers on Sunday when he hosts more than 500 office-bearers at a star hotel in the city.
