The Jal Sakthi Abhiyan has directed the state government to furnish details of water pipeline connections given to the households in the state for next five years, till 2024 and demanded the state to undertake works related to water supply connectivity under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
In this phase, the state government is directed to undertake five important works towards improving the water resources in the state so that water connection can be provided to all the rural households by 2024. The works include water conservation and rain water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies and tanks, to create re-use and borewell recharge structures, watershed development and to carry out intensive afforestation.
The letter also stated that already the state government had allotted Rs 500 crore for renovating and rejuvenating the water bodies under kudimaramath scheme in which 5,000 lakes and 25,000 ponds in the state would be desilted.
To add to the existing works, all the water bodies in the rural areas would be renovated by undertaking following works such as establishment of bathing ghat, baby pond, inlets and outlets. Rs 750 crore has already been allotted for the projects and the state government is directed to carry out all the works under MGNREGS.
The aim of Jal Sakthi Abhiyan is to provide drinking water connectivity to all the rural households by 2024 and for the purpose state government is directed to provide information under three heads. First in the information on the already existing drinking water connections though electric motors, the number of new connections to be given through electric motors and the number of new drinking water pipeline connections to be given through integrated drinking water schemes.
