Workers of a private sugar factory staged a protest against the mass layoff due to financial crunch in Thanjavur on Friday.
The protesting workers raised slogans and prevented the entry of the other workers. On information, police rushed to the spot, held talks with the agitating workers and pacified them. The workers asked the police to advise the factory administration to hold talks before declaring the layoff.
Claiming that the factory had called only 11 workers for duty, the protesters said that there was no clarity on the 11 employees, who would be called for duty. Following an assurance that talks would be arranged on the layoff issue, the workers withdrew the protest.
