When the state government is claiming that Kudimaramath scheme had made differences in the lives of farmers, MDMK leader Vaiko on Tuesday placed corruption charges against the state government in the scheme.
He also said that when the scheme was announced in 2016, farmers welcomed the project. The state government too announced Rs 100 crore for the project in 2016-17 and gradually increased the amount in the subsequent years. Recently, the state government passed a government order allotting about Rs 500 under Kudimaramath scheme to desilt water bodies.
The scheme was designed by the state government to improve the water resources in the state but on the contrary the scheme is plagued by corruption. Farmers in several districts have complained to the respective district collectors about the corruption in the scheme, but no action was taken.
Vaiko quoted various incidents of corruption in works carried out under Kudimaramath schemes in Tiruchy, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts and demanded Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to intervene in the issue and to clean the project by eliminating fake farmers associations registered for carrying out works under Kudimaramath scheme.
