For instance, data for Kancheepuram district reveals that all parameters in the above 7 years, up to 10 years and life imprisonment category were assigned the value “0” indicating that the data for this district was patently skewed. Near similar patterns were noticed for Thiruvallur, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Pudukottai, Tanjore and Nagapattinam districts as well, he said.
In Pudukottai, Thanjavur, and Nagapattinam districts, data with respect to offences falling under the “above 7 years” and “up-to 10 years” category were strangely assigned the value “0” in all parameters, giving one a utopian impression that these districts are free from crime. In Thanjavur and Nagapattinam districts data in relation to serious offences punishable with life imprisonment were assigned “0”. Discrepancies were also noticed in the data for Madurai district where the data in relation to offences under the “above 7 years category” were assigned the value “0” in all parameters. Justice Anand Venkatesh appointed a committee to get the data for each District and scrutinise the same and submit the final data separately with a report.
