Seeking to woo Dalits ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the DMK and Congress of doing away with reservation in promotions for SC and ST communities.
“Equality is our commitment. But it was the third front government, where both the DMK and the Congress were partners that removed reservation in promotions for SC and ST communities. I dare them to give one instance where the BJP has altered the social justice system in the nation. For us, social justice is not a mathematical equation- plus here, minus there…it is an article of faith. For a long time, the Opposition spread panic on this issue. It was the Vajpayee Government that passed a Constitutional Amendment to safeguard interests of SC and ST communities,” he said while addressing a massive public gathering at Perumanallur.
Terming the Opposition unity to be funny, the Prime Minister also said that the agenda of the so-called alliance is only to attack Modi and they lack vision for development.
“What is the agenda of the so called alliance? What are the issues they are fighting? Nobody knows. Because their guns are only aimed at Modi,” he remarked.
Talking about the farmer’s income support scheme of Rs 6,000, the Prime Minister also questioned the UPA’s poorly thought of waivers which come once in ten years. In his 40-minute speech, Modi trained his guns only on Congress, but did not mention anything about the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu indicating that their seat-sharing alliance talks are yet to reach a consensus.
In a veiled attack on former Congress leader P Chidambaram, the Prime Minister called him the recounting Minister.
