Students across Tamil Nadu will soon get a TV channel dedicated only to them. The state government is set to launch free-to-air channel Kalvi Tholaikatchi from January 21.
A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that a high-tech studio has been set up at Anna Centenary Library building for the channel, which soon will be inaugurated by the chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. He added that periodical announcements by School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan would also be made via the channel.
“The channel will initially be made available for about 10 hours every day and will then be turned into a 24X7 channel in a couple of months,” said the official. He also said that there are programmes such as Oodivilayadu Pappa planned to be telecast especially during school holidays and would include those on traditional sports including silambattam, kabadi and yoga.
“E-lectures containing comprehensive explanations by the experts on difficult subjects will also be made available via the channel. The subjects will be suitable for students between Classes 1 to 12,” the official said.
He added that all the programmes were prepared by Directorate of School Education, comprising experts and academicians, including from Tamil Nadu State Council of Educational Research (SCERT). Exclusive programmes to improve communication skills and information technology learning, especially for rural areas, would also be given priority in the channel.
The official said the department is also discussing with private parties to launch coaching programmes for competitive exams including NEET and JEE.
