Five persons, including one from Salem, died with suspected H1N1 symptoms in the Western part of Tamil Nadu on a single day, while around 300 persons were said to be undergoing treatment in Coimbatore hospitals for fever.
Similarly, R Vasantha (40) of Thasappa Nagar in Tiruppur was having fever for over a week and on October 31, she was referred to Coimbatore GH, where she died on Friday night while Ganesan (57), a cable TV operator from Ganapathy Palayam in Tiruppur died in a private hospital in Coimbatore. He was infected by H1N1 virus.
Meanwhile, P Sumithra (35) of Cunnoor in Nilgiris had high temperature and the treatment at Cunnoor failed to cure her and so she was referred to Coimbatore GH two days back. However, she died on Friday night.
While Ramadas (77), who was running a typewriting institute in Ganesapuram in Namakkal, was running high temperature and was undergoing treatment. However, he was diagnosed positive for H1N1 and was rushed to Salem GH where he succumbed on Saturday.
Sources said that as many as 73 persons including 11 infected with H1N1 and four with Dengue symptoms are undergoing treatment in Coimbatore GH.
Meanwhile, Vellore Corporation officials fined five establishments a total of Rs 18,000 on Saturday during an anti-dengue drive.
