The accused, identified as Nagaraj, from Karattur village kidnapped the girl and took her to a deserted area, filled with thick canopy of Tamarind trees, in Perumalpuram, located close to Karattur.
As the girl was missing in the afternoon, her parents started searching for her in the neighbourhood, but could not find. According to police, when the victim’s mother, Pandeeswari, went to the deserted area in Perumalpuram, she heard her daughter crying.
She went close, on seeing Pandeeswari, Nagaraj escaped from the spot. As the girl sustained injuries all over her body, she was immediately rescued and rushed to Periyakulam GH for treatment.
After giving first aid, she was shifted to District Headquarters hospital in Theni. Periyakulam police have booked a case against Nagarajan under section 6 of POCSO Act along with section 376 of IPC and in hunt for Nagaraj.
In the meantime, Nagaraj returned to his residence late night and had torched his house.
However, within morning, Nagaraj was arrested by the police. After interrogation, police said that Nagaraj seems to have lost his mind and might have torched his house. Later, he was arrested and remanded.
